Update + Spring Equinox

March 14th, 2021

Just a quick update on what happened after I retired from leading the Order of Bards Ovates & Druids in June last year. I managed a few months of blissful letting go and doing nothing, but after Samhain a rather wonderful flow of work has swept me up and it’s so interesting. I’m now involved in the work of three institutes: The Psychosynthesis Institute, where I trained in psychotherapy years ago, and who have now appointed me as a non-executive director; The Synthesis Institute, where I am now working in the integration programme for participants involved in research into the use of psilocybin for the treatment of depression; and The Sophrology Institute, which I founded with colleagues, and which is focussed on teaching sophrology, which is like a form of enhanced mindfulness training that is particularly helpful in reducing stress and anxiety.

What is exciting about this work is that all three organizations are integrating psychological understanding and research with what you might call spiritual approaches. The Synthesis Institute, for example, is aware of the importance of fostering our connection with nature and the deeper, mystical awareness that this nature connection can offer, and on the Spring Equinox I’ll be guiding an online experience for the Institute and friends at 8pm UK time Saturday 20th March, which you’d be welcome to join. It’s free – you just need to register to receive the zoom link by clicking here.

  1. Very much enjoyed the Synthesis Institute Spring Equinox event last night – many thanks for that. Even though I found it nigh on impossible to relax down one side whilst tensing up on the other, I felt fabulous afterwards. It was a lovely visualisation.
Do you happen to know the name of the song played at the end, when everyone was leaving?
    Thanks again, Charlotte

    • Hi Charlotte – great you enjoyed it! The music was from the album Camino de Flores, artist: El Buho, tracks: Mirando El Fuego and Picaflor. Happy Equinox!

  2. Hi Philip,

I’m also interested in research into psilocybin. The famous Entrepreneur Tim Ferris has invested a lot of his own money into this and he has some truly remarkable podcast shows on this issue. (The Tim Ferris Show)., well worth a listen.
