The Embodied Imagination and the Art of Psychotherapy

May 9th, 2012

Edward Burne-Jones, The Wheel of Fortune

Many years ago I heard Ian Rees speak at a Merlin conference, and found his paper on the use of animal imagery in therapy really helpful. Here are details of his latest workshops, with a link to his website on his training programme.

May 12th/13th The Embodied Imagination and the Art of Psychotherapy

This workshop is concerned with the exploration of the Deep Imagination and its application in therapy.

A technique of dream incubation which links the imagination with the senses and the deep patterns of the body will be taught in relation to personal work and in therapeutic practice. Jung’s work on alchemy and the mandala of the Tree of life will be used as transformative frameworks for incubation practice

We will also draw on folklore, songs and poetry and look at how they can assist us to deepen our relationship to the imagination.

 9th/10th June  Imagination and Transformation

In this workshop we consider the capacity of the imagination to bring about transformation, deepening our experience of the kairos moment-the moment when everything changes. We will consider the relationship between being and self image using the border ballads of Tam Lin and Thomas Rhymer and the Tree of Life to focus our inquiry.

7th/8th July The Archetype of the Magician

We will consider the archetype of the magician and the mysterious figure of the Green Man/Prophet who teaches from within the Dream. We will relate to Jung’s notion of the Self, the Wise being who is at the centre of the mandala of the Tree of Life. The myths of Merlin and other witches and wizards will be considered as a expressions of the archetype. We will look at its manifestation in the practice of therapy and in our lives.

The workshops are led by Ian Rees: an UKCP Registered Psychotherapist working and living in Glastonbury. He has been working with people in relation to wounding and growth for approx 30 years. He has an abiding belief in the power of the embodied imagination and the curative nature of awareness and his ongoing inquiry is to trust the moment of unknowing and surrender fully to it.
They are non residential and held in Room 5, The Old Clinic,  10 St John’s Square  Glastonbury BA6 9LJ from 1000am to 500pm each day. Cost of individual workshops are £150 or if the series is booked £360 Deposit for individual workshops £50 and for 3 £120.  Cheques should be made payable to Ian Rees and sent to Ian Rees, 10 Glastonbury Road, Meare, Glastonbury, Somerset.
