Earth Pilgrim

January 22nd, 2008

Satish Kumar, editor of Resurgence and a Jain monk from the age of 9 to 18, has presented a TV programme called Earth Pilgrim which is beautiful and enchanting. Programmes like this and ‘Extreme Pilgrim’ restore my faith in the BBC – and in humanity! It’s up for 5 more days on BBC’s iPlayer page. If you click on the little icon bottom right of screen the image goes to full screen size. This should take you to it:

  1. I wholeheartedly agree. I watched it a couple of days ago. Beautiful, inspiring. I found myself with tears in my eyes a couple of times during the show, it was so moving. Such peace.

  2. Yes, someone put a note of it up on the OBOD web forums, and late that night I thought, I’ll take a quick look at this … needless to say I was late getting to my bed!

Any chance of making Satish Kumar an honorary Bard?

Unfortunately our friends in the US of A can’t get to use the iPlayer.

But it was a beautiful meditation not only on the wonders of Dartmoor, but on living lightly on the planet. Highly recommended.

  3. Yes – it was a beautifully filmed programme about a chap who had spent his life as a Jain Monk in India and who had walked to Washington to highlight the need for peace in the world.

He now lives on Dartmoor and what a truly magnificent temple it turns out to be!

  4. I was able to download this program from emule, because living in Spain I was not able to get up the link. Once downloaded and watched on the DVD player we LOVED it sooo much that it was actually like being there. I rememeber Whistman’s woods very well, an inter dimensional, elemental, loving and magic place. Somehow, Satish’s eyes, ears and heart became mine while on his journey with him. I am so pleased you brought this to our attention, Philip. This kind of program is what the media is truly made for in the HIGHEST SENSE!
