IMG_1096‘SWEET AWEN AS FROM THE CAULDRON OF CERIDWEN’ – A DRUID RETREAT at CAE MABON IN SNOWDONIA
We invite you to join us in a unique retreat experience in the magical landscape of Snowdonia in Wales designed to help you access the deep wellsprings of creativity and healing through which Awen flows.
Cae Mabon is set in an oak forest glade and centered on a Celtic Roundhouse – a collection of unique and beautiful structures set in woodland facing the mountains with lake Llyn Padarn in the valley below. To the west is Ynys Mon (the island of Anglesey), the heartland of the Druids in ancient times. To the east is Dinas Emrys, where dragons are said to have risen from the ground and where the young Merlin spoke his first great prophecy.
Cae Mabon is deep in old Druid country. Some say Taliesin is her guardian spirit. Its cob cottage, straw bale hogan, cedar cabin and barn are situated amongst lush greenery and woodland, and the Afon Fachwen (‘little white river’) flows from Elidir near the thatched round house and cedar hot tub. During our retreat there will be storytelling, music-making, meditation and ritual. We will visit Dinas Emrys, celebrate the time of the May full moon, and open to the Spirit of Druidry and the land.
The workshop will be led by Philip Carr-Gomm, Chief of The Order of Bards Ovates & Druids and author of over a dozen books on spirituality, and Penny Billington, editor of Druid journal Touchstone and author of The Path of Druidry: Walking the Ancient Green Way. Honorary Bards ZZ Birmingham and Eric Maddern will entertain us with music and storytelling.
The cost of the retreat is £340 inclusive of all meals (vegetarian & delicious). All accommodation is sharing in cabins – see www.caemabon.co.uk for pictures. A limited number of tent spaces exist if you want to camp but there is no reduction in cost. To make a reservation, send £100 deposit via paypal to office@druidry.org (write “Cae Mabon deposit” and your postal address in message field) or send a cheque for £100 deposit made out to OBOD together with a note of your name, address, telephone number and email to: Penny Billington, 4 Park View, Silver Street, Wells BA5 1UW or for info email: touchstone@druidry.org.

Psychology, Magic and the Spiritual Path – Exploring Psychosynthesis as a Way of Personal Development & Healing – a workshop in Germany – Psychosynthesis is a psychology that includes an understanding of the human being as a soul. This psycho-spiritual approach to the human being can be of great value to us, whatever spiritual path we tread. It helps us integrate different aspects of ourselves, explore our shadows, and constructively work with impulses we might receive from both the sub-conscious and the super-conscious.
Developed in the 1960s by the Italian psychiatrist Roberto Assagioli, Psychosynthesis includes insights from many approaches, including the Jungian, and has had a seminal influence on the development of Humanistic and Transpersonal psychology.
In this workshop we will explore the central concepts and methods of Psychosynthesis using specific experiential techniques to get an inside working knowledge of Psychosynthesis that we can apply to our own lives and our own spiritual path. Magic and Psychology fused! That is the goal of this workshop. Psychological insight without the life-giving waters of the Perennial Wisdom Traditions is dry. Working with magic without the balance of psychological understanding can lead to delusion, superstition, a walking further away from self-knowledge. Our work during our time together will be to combine the best of modern psychology with the techniques of magic to generate insight and creativity – a clearing of blockages and perhaps the beginning of a new phase in our lives. To do this we will work with Psychosynthesis. Into the cauldron of our workshop we will bring song, movement, ritual and mask-making, as well as excellent food, good company and the magic of community. We very much look forward to working with everyone! Details.

Celebrate! A five day immersion in the arts of celebrancy for OBOD members and friends who want to explore working with rites of passage – either in a professional role or simply for themselves and close friends and relatives. In this year of celebration of the Golden Anniversary of the Order, it seems fitting that we should turn our attention to celebration as a natural and spiritual response to the fundamental turning-points in life. During five days in the magical setting of Earthspirit in Compton Dundon near Glastonbury, we will work with ways in which we can create and hold rites of naming, weddings, handfastings, and funerals.
Lying between the two hills of Dundon Beacon and Lollover in Somerset, Earthspirit is just on the edge of the small village of Compton Dundon, a few miles south of Glastonbury. The Earthspirit Centre is warm and comfortable, and in addition to extensive gardens that include an Ogham copse, there is a large indoor cedarwood hot-tub.
This time together is designed for both experienced celebrants and for those who are just beginning to consider celebrancy as an avenue of service. We will receive advice from, and listen to the experience of trained ‘mainstream’ celebrants in established traditions, from professional ‘alternative’ celebrants, and from members of the Order who offer their services as celebrants to their local community. We’ll share our own stories and learn ways in which we can craft rites that respond to the needs of people who may be ‘spiritual’ but who hold no special religious affiliation, as well as for those who want a specifically Druid ritual. Contributors include Caitlin Matthews, Peter Owen-Jones, Mark Townsend and Philip Carr-Gomm. Cost: £363 inc four nights shared accommodation and all meals. £60 Single Room Supplement. Fully booked. To register for waiting list email: events@druidry.org

‘Plant Consciousness: An Event That Will Revolutionise Our Relationship With Plants’ held at Regents University, London. Our disconnect from the natural world has led to the disastrous situation that we now find ourselves in on planet Earth, yet our deep feelings for nature form part of our spiritual longing. Plant Consciousness will demonstrate in dynamic ways, how at both the microcosm and macrocosm levels we can re-establish that connection to nature and why it is essential for the development of consciousness and the well-being of the planet that we do. We can learn so much from the inherent qualities of the plant kingdom and if we look even closer, from the intelligence that lies behind it. Bringing together the values of plant neurobiology, permaculture, deep-ecology, eco-psychology, shamanism and herbalism you will discover a deeper understanding of and a new harmony with plants and with your place in the biosphere of life on this planet. Speakers confirmed for this event are:

– John Perkins – Sacred Plants, Shapeshifting & The Consciousness Revolution

– Philip Carr-Gomm – Working With Sacred Plants Of The Druid Tradition

– Sir Julian Rose – The Path to Organic Awareness

– Pam Montgomery – Our Symbiotic Relationship With Plants

– Simon G Powell – The Role Of Botanical Intelligence On Board Spaceship Earth

– Stefan Ball – Everything In Nature Is Simple

High Weirdness & the Function of the Obscure in the Western Esoteric Tradition – The John Michell Memorial Lecture for RILKO:
The Western Esoteric Tradition, and the landscape of magic, mysticism and religion within which it lies, is replete with curiosities, and even pathologies, that make its exploration often amusing but sometimes unsettling. Why is so much of esotericism so weird and obscure? John Michell loved the eccentric, and this talk aims to be both entertaining and sobering, at turns elucidating and obfuscatory. Examples of High Weirdness from the audience will be welcome.
