Journeys of the Soul

March 23rd, 2010

Last night we held the book launch for ‘Journeys of the Soul – The Life and Legacy of a Druid Chief’ which is a biography I have written about Ross Nichols, the founder of the Order of Bards Ovates & Druids, which also includes colour reproductions of some of his paintings, letters, poems, and excerpts from his travel journals.

The launch also marked the opening of an exhibition of his watercolours which will remain on display at Treadwell’s Bookshop in Covent Garden until Sunday. Annie in the office has been slaving away mounting them in frames, and yesterday she and Cairisthea Worthington hung them with extraordinary speed and precision. Here they are wielding the hammers they used on the job and looking ready for anything, and a photo with the party under way! Many thanks to Christina and the Treadwells staff for hosting the event.

  1. Thank you Philip for a very interesting biography, the essays and pictures also help give an insight into Ross’s life – a lovely book and a fitting tribute.

  2. The book is fabulous except your comment on the section about Scotland:
“Amongst the Scots youth the old England-is-my-oyster attitude prevails – north for training, south for jobs.”
Do you realise that this is only the case because Scotland lost its Parliament and some of us had no choice but to head south. I did as there was no work for me in Scotland. Now we have our own Parliament, we might now start to “solve our own problems”. Remember the Parliament was ‘taken’ from us long ago. Have you ever read the history?

  3. Hello Jean!
That quote is from an excerpt of a book Ross Nichols wrote in 1939. You are writing as if I wrote it recently! Please read the two pages before (90-91) to get the context!
    Best wishes,
    Philip
